Bourne announce new property plans

Excellent news for the town of Bourne as plans to construct 65 affordable houses have recently been given to the local council.

Home building company Longhurst Homes have sent their application to the district council which includes a variety of bungalows, flats and houses and will enable people to rent property in Stamford and Bourne or purchase under a shared ownership scheme.

The land that Longhurst are hoping to use for the build is between the local primary school and furniture store, few problems are anticipated and Nick Worboys, head developer for Longhurst seemed positive on the future: “The scheme will provide a fully sustainable community offering a mix of accommodation from two-bedroom apartments and bungalows up to four-bedroom houses.”

Out of the 65 houses - 20 will be sold for shared ownership and 45 will be used for renting purposes. The homes will vary in size with a mix of 2/3/4 bedrooms available with over 100 parking spaces.

If the application is given the green light the site will be built in two separate phases. The area is known to possibly hold archaeological importance which could be found and/or damaged during the building process. Because of this a survey is likely to be carried out before any work can be done.

Larkfleet Homes who are a well known locally based building firm are believed to be working on the build on behalf of Longhurst and could start as early as March 2009. Local councilors are concerned with the possible overloading of the town, believing that roads will have to be widened and that attracting new retail outlets and jobs are more important to the local people than a few more houses.

Mr Worboys however believes that more homes are needed, saying: “The site is currently allocated as employment land within the local plan, but such is the need for sustainable affordable homes in Bourne, South Kesteven District Council has welcomed an application for new properties offering a mix of social rented and shared ownership homes.”
